Pei-Yu Hung
Womxn @ Work 2024
From Pei-Yu
Being a womxn is to be an island.
To position yourself in the whirling water of the earth.
Bearing the splashing waves on the coast.
The island nourishes the beings over, above, and under.
The land bears fruits of sweetness with a touch of soreness or bitterness.
In the workshop underneath the mango tree,
My grandmother worked
My mother was the island
that witnessed passengers that came, and those who stayed.
To turn in the sequence of the day and to bathe in the moonlight.
Inviting the warmth of the sun and sharpness of the breeze.
Take some seeds from here and have it float to another.
I am an island.
And to be an island I must be womxn first.
To climb the mango tree and harvest the unripe sour mango.
She said to just put some sugar on it,
And marinate it for a few days.
