John Murphy
John Murphy currently serves as the interim executive director of Continuing Education (CE) at RISD, where he leads a creative, dynamic and entrepreneurial team focused on enhancing existing programs and driving new, innovative initiatives for non-degree educational offerings. Previously, John was the director of marketing and communications in CE, where he spearheaded digital transformations, drove strategic initiatives and led cross-functional teams to advance a wide range of programs, including adult, teen and K-12 programming; pre-collegiate programs; and new global initiatives.
John’s experience includes developing enterprise-level digital marketing strategies and systems solutions at Brown University as the digital marketing strategist within the central Office of University Communications team. At Plan International, a global non-governmental organization operating in over 75 countries, he pioneered emerging technology initiatives and worked on Information Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) projects for communities in Ghana and El Salvador.
John holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he founded an integrated communications agency focused on growth marketing as an undergrad. John is also an avid student of CE courses and was previously enrolled in the Advertising Design Certificate Program.
