Jehanzeb Shoaib

Critic

Originally from Pakistan, Jehanzeb Shoaib is an architect, designer and researcher. His research-led creative practice investigates the agency of design to highlight spatial-temporal boundaries, which lie at the intersections of geography and critical infrastructure. His practice employs decolonial design narratives, counter-mapping and speculative worldbuilding as tools across various mediums and scales to advocate for social and environmental concerns.

Shoaib holds a Master of Science in Architecture Studies from MIT in Cambridge and a Bachelor of Architecture from Beaconhouse National University in Lahore. Shoaib worked with the Future Heritage Lab and exhibited an immersive mobile pavilion in Austria. His work has also been exhibited at the Manchester International Festival, TU Berlin Architecture department and the MIT Architecture HQ Gallery. His work has been published in Imprint and Construction+ Journal. His research has been supported by the Aga Khan Program of Architecture Fellowship and the Travel Grant Award from MIT. In addition, he was a GATHER Fellow with NYUAD and a SEED Fellow with the Seeds of Peace organization.

SECTION DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the beginning student to the origins, media, geometries and role(s) of projection drawing in the design and construction process. The student will learn systems of projection drawing from direct experience, and be challenged to work both from life and to life. Subjects such as transparency, figure/ground, sciagraphy, oblique projection, surface development, volumetric intersections, spatial manipulation and analytic operations will build on the basics of orthographic and conic projection. The course involves line and tone drawing, hand drafting, computer drawing (Autocad) and computer modeling (Rhino).

Estimated Cost of Materials: $20.00 - $100.00

Majors are pre-registered for this course by the department. Enrollment is limited to Sophomore Architecture Students.
