Carley Ferrara

Critic

Carley Ferrara is the owner and lead craftsperson of Iron Mountain Forge & Furniture. Her practice combines woodworking, steel fabrication and blacksmithing. She has 16 years of experience in woodworking and nine years of experience in steel fabrication and blacksmithing and has studied with many amazing craftspeople. She prides herself on her attention to detail.

Ferrara earned a BFA in interior design from Miami University of Ohio, with a dual concentration in furniture making and business. She later received her MFA in Furniture Design from RISD and has since designed and built custom pieces for clients around the world. In 2015, she was one of six designers to compete on the first season of Ellen’s Design Challenge on HGTV.

SECTION DESCRIPTION

This course gives the student a hands-on opportunity to develop design skills through the interaction with industrial materials that have strictly defined properties. Experimenting with these materials and the processes by which they are manipulated and formed promotes innovative thinking, problem solving and idea development. Students will achieve a more precise, professional and sensitive approach to design while broadening their technical skill base.

Enrollment is limited to Sophomore Industrial Design Students.
