Yue Hua
Yue Hua/华越 (she/her) is a filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist who uses analogue film, expanded cinema and digital media to explore cross-cultural identity (Chinese-American), language and the female experience through a personal lens. Her work, often incorporating personal narratives, dismantles traditional ideas and empowers women through visual storytelling.
Her films and performances have been featured internationally at film festivals and galleries including Revolution Per Minutes Film Festivals, International Art Film Festival, Millennium Film Workshop Channel, Fisura International Festival of Experimental Film & Video, Harkat 16mm Film Festival, Baocheng Screening at Art Village and Shanghai International Short Week. Her paintings and installation artwork have been exhibited in 上山下乡 in China, and her multi-projection performance has been performed in Emerson Contemporary Media Gallery.
Yue holds a BFA from the China Academy of Art, where she majored in film and television production, and an MFA in film and media arts from Emerson College. Yue is a recipient of the UFVA Carole Fielding Grant, an Emerging Artist Award from RPM Festival, a New England Local Filmmaker Award, support from the Emerson Enhancement Fund, and Patchwork, and interdisciplinary arts fellowship.
