James Mercer

James JA Mercer is a New York-based artist working in painting, drawing and animation and focusing on troubled geometries and suburban alienation. Distortions in familiar space create dissonance between feeling and form, a slight suffocation manufactured by rectangular clutter. James received an MFA from Columbia University and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has exhibited at Meliksetian Briggs, Picture Theory, the Roswell Museum, Pioneer Works and the Drawing Center. His collaborative animations with Yifan Jiang have been shown at IFFR, Slamdance and the Eyeworks Festival.
