policymakers to explore how art and design can communicate public policy around

Entrepreneurs from Kickstarter, Etsy and Quirky came to campus during Wintersession to launch new online networks featuring work from RISD students and alumni, and to speak to RISD students on what it takes to launch a successful business. The answer? A combination of a focused vision and an expansive network.
Co-founded by RISD Professor Elizabeth Dean Hermann, the Institute for Sustainable Urban Societies develops innovative solutions to the complex issues facing dense metropolises in the world’s most endangered coastal zones.
RISD was the first art and design school ever to enter NASA’s Great Moonbuggy Race, an annual competition sponsored by the US Space & Rocket Center.
In learning first-hand about the traditional crafts of this West African country, students gained new insights into their own work and practices.
